BJJ 101 - The Mount Position
BJJ 101 - The Mount Position
Whether you're a submission hunter or not - or even if you fancy yourself a submission hunter, and you're not - in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the reality is that positional dominance is key. While you might be able to pull off a last-ditch submission from some crazy position, let's face it... the odds of success are slim.
In our new Kingz blog series, we will be focusing on those fundamental positions and techniques in jiu-jitsu that you must master, if you want to increase your success rate and improve your dominance on the mat. The first position we'll be covering is the mount. The mount is one of the most powerful positions in BJJ, second only to the back control.
In this blog post, we’ll dive into the essentials of dominating the mount in BJJ, covering a basic understanding of the position, key principles for maintaining control, how to transition to other positions, and finally a few common submissions form mount that you should include in your arsenal.
You can read the full blog at the Kingz USA site here, but here is what we'll cover:
- Understanding the Mount Position - plus the difference between standard, high and S-mount.
- Key Principles of Mount Control - base, balance, pressure, hooks and post.
- Transitioning - into, out of, and between the different mounts.
- Common Submissions from the Mount - armbar, shoulder locks, cross-collar choke and ezekiel choke.
