Top Takedowns for Jiu-Jitsu

So you think you can get away with no learning any takedowns for your BJJ game, huh? Well, think again. That ship has long sailed. Especially if you're a competitor - but even if you're not - being a well-rounded practitioner is what we're all striving for. That includes having a solid takedown game.

"But wrestling is haaaaard." Yeah, it is. You're going to get a lot more bumps and bruises from wrestling and judo than you are from butt-scooting. So, where do you start? Well, here is a short-list of some solid takedown options for the jiu-jitsu practitioner:

  • Single-Leg Takedown
  • Double-Leg Takedown
  • Inside Trip (Uchi Mata)
  • Seoi Nage (Shoulder Throw)
  • Ankle Pick
