The new year is nearly upon us! And with it, that dreaded - and elusive - new year's resolution, as well as a long list of things that "will finally happen" in 2024. 

If you're like me, one of those things is spreading the joy of Brazilian jiu-jitsu to others, and in particular, to your friends and family. You know that now only will they reap the benefits of jiu-jitsu - as you have - but you'll finally be able to talk about it with them as much as your heart desires without them rolling their eyes. 

But - as you have likely already found out - getting people to start BJJ is not easy. It's hard enough getting them to try a new restaurant or a new hair style... something that doesn't involve sweaty people trying to smash and choke them out. It comes as no surprise to anyone that Ireland is home to some talented martial artists - pugilism runs strong in their blood, as you know - but go ahead and add another name to that roster: Rosa Walsh-McCann. 

You may have already heard of her. One of the most prolific competitors in the European circuits, Rosa has been regularly hitting the podium in events across the continent, from IBJJF and AJP to Grapple Kings and Grapple Fest. Then she shocked the jiu-jitsu world when, as a brown belt, she subbed long-time black belt Nathalie Ribeiro at the ADCC Las Vegas Open. Now a black belt, she's already proving herself to be a formidable threat on the mats.

The holiday season is upon us! There is a lot to be excited about around this time of the year: cooler temperatures, parties, more time with family, and tons of great homemade food. 

But it's also a time when the training gets a little sparse... whether because of holiday gym closures, obligatory family gatherings, or simply because snuggling up with loves ones - or your cat - in front of a warm fire sounds nicer than getting strangled that day. Whatever the reason, it's natural to feel just a teeny bit guilty about not putting in the hours on the mat.
