      Planning Your 2024 Jiu-Jitsu Season?

      Planning Your 2024 Jiu-Jitsu Season?

If you haven't yet... what are you waiting for?! It's already February. Just kidding. You're among good company. Few people have foresight - or even the time - to plan their year before the year has even begun. I certainly haven't.

There does come a time when it IS too late (... November, probably). So, while I can't say that it's "never too late", now is as good a time as any to start planning out your 2024 jiu-jitsu competition season.

But where to begin? If you've been competing for a while, you might have some idea, but if you're a brand new white belt - or even a colored belt who hasn't gotten around to competing just yet - you might find your self at a loss.

The Official Kingz BJJ Gi Guide

The Official Kingz BJJ Gi Guide

All jiu-jitsu players were not created alike... so why should all BJJ gis be the same? That's always been our philosophy here at Kingz.

This is why we offer so many different gi models; so we can offer a little something for everyone. If you like super minimalist, streamlined styles, we've got you. If you prefer mid-weight gis that can handle hours of rigorous training, we've got them. If you're looking for super lightweight gis that will get you easily past the scale at your next tournament, never fear.

But because we offer so many, sometimes scrolling through our website can be intimidating. To make it easier, we've created this Official Kingz BJJ Gi Guide to make everything simple.

Your Best & Worst BJJ Goals for the New Year

Your Best & Worst BJJ Goals for the New Year

Are you ready for the new year to begin?? Yeah, me neither. But there's no stopping time, am I right?

What you can do is plan to make 2024 the best year ever... at least better than 2020 (which isn't a high bar). How do you do that? By setting goals and keeping to them. I hear your eyes roll. Agreed, the setting of the goals is easy, but actually accomplishing them can be a might trickier. We've all been there.

Where you - and everybody, really - misses the mark is that the goals you set might not be the best. They might not be "SMART": specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound. So, really, you might have been setting yourself up for failure from the start. Ugh. Yeah, I hear ya.

How to Get Friends & Family to Try BJJ

How to Get Friends & Family to Try BJJ

The new year is nearly upon us! And with it, that dreaded - and elusive - new year's resolution, as well as a long list of things that "will finally happen" in 2024.

If you're like me, one of those things is spreading the joy of Brazilian jiu-jitsu to others, and in particular, to your friends and family. You know that now only will they reap the benefits of jiu-jitsu - as you have - but you'll finally be able to talk about it with them as much as your heart desires without them rolling their eyes.

But - as you have likely already found out - getting people to start BJJ is not easy. It's hard enough getting them to try a new restaurant or a new hair style... something that doesn't involve sweaty people trying to smash and choke them out. But never fear, this year will be different, because we're here to help.

      Athlete Highlight - Rosa Walsh-McCann

      Athlete Highlight - Rosa Walsh-McCann

It comes as no surprise to anyone that Ireland is home to some talented martial artists - pugilism runs strong in their blood, as you know - but go ahead and add another name to that roster: Rosa Walsh-McCann.

You may have already heard of her. One of the most prolific competitors in the European circuits, Rosa has been regularly hitting the podium in events across the continent, from IBJJF and AJP to Grapple Kings and Grapple Fest. Then she shocked the jiu-jitsu world when, as a brown belt, she subbed long-time black belt Nathalie Ribeiro at the ADCC Las Vegas Open. Now a black belt, she's already proving herself to be a formidable threat on the mats.
