    BJJ Cross-training with Kettlebells

Cross-training isn't just for those who want to get "absolutely jacked." Whether you're a hard-core competitor or just the regular mat warrior, cross-training - doing something physical other than just jiu-jitsu - is vitally important. If you're the former and you want to have any chance of winning the Euros... you just have not excuse not to.

Not only does cross-training keep your body strong, so that you can hit the mat with your best, but it also keeps you balanced and helps prevent injuries on the mat. But do you really want to hit your wallet with two (or three) gym memberships? Well, if you can, by all means. For the rest of us, kettlebells are the answer.

Especially if you're a competitor - but even if you're not - being a well-rounded practitioner is what we're all striving for. That includes having a solid takedown game.

"But wrestling is haaaaard." Yeah, it is. You're going to get a lot more bumps and bruises from wrestling and judo than you are from butt-scooting. But as soon as you achieve a certain level of proficiency on your feet, you're going to find that when you do go to the ground, you'll be in a lot better position than your opponent.

So, where do you start? Well, here is a short-list of some solid takedown options for the jiu-jitsu practitioner...

Why BJJ Isn't an Olympic Sport (and May Never Be)

Why isn't Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Olympics? Maybe you've been asking yourself this, or maybe you've been getting plagued by this question by friends and family. Either way, you probably want to know... otherwise you wouldn't be reading this.

It's not for lack of trying - by some - and the answer is actually a bit more complicated than you might think. Generally, it comes down to two looming points: 1) the BJJ community just isn't cohesive enough, and 2) the IOC doesn't really see it as an attractive option. In this blog, we've broken it down even further...

BJJ 101 - The Mount Position

Whether you're a submission hunter or not - or even if you fancy yourself a submission hunter, and you're not - in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the reality is that positional dominance is key. While you might be able to pull off a last-ditch submission from some crazy position, let's face it... the odds of success are slim.

In our new Kingz blog series, we will be focusing on those fundamental positions and techniques in jiu-jitsu that you must master, if you want to increase your success rate and improve your dominance on the mat. The first position we'll be covering is the mount. The mount is one of the most powerful positions in BJJ, second only to the back control.

In this blog post, we’ll dive into the essentials of dominating the mount in BJJ, covering a basic understanding of the position, key principles for maintaining control, how to transition to other positions, and finally a few common submissions form mount that you should include in your arsenal...
